Part I
BE KIND:
- Treat others as you would like to be treated. We are all
different and have differing needs. We should try to be
sensitive to the needs of others as well as to those of
ourselves.
- Every member of our school community deserves respect.
Use proper language at all times.
- Thoughtfulness demands that there be no running in the halls
or on the stairs. You might injure someone else or yourself,
and you are interrupting people who are studying or working.
- Be on the lookout for someone who might need your help. This
could be another student, a teacher, staff member, or visitor.
They could need directions, assistance, or a kind word.
- We all have disagreements from time to time. Try to handle
them with care using words, not actions. If you need help,
ask a teacher. Fighting is never the correct solution.
BE FAIR:
- Work hard and play hard. Enjoy yourself and others. Offer
help to your friends with homework, but do not copy homework
or give or receive test information. If you cheat, you are
not being fair to yourself or your friend.
- Disruptive behavior in classes, in the hallways, in the
locker rooms and bathrooms, on our fields, on the playground,
in the lunchroom or anywhere else on campus or coming to
and from school, or on a field trip, takes time away from
others and yourself and does not represent the values of
our school. We will warn you and you may suffer consequences
for your actions.
- Leave your gum and candy at home. They can create a distraction
for you and your classmates and can leave our school looking untidy.
- Help everyone, including yourself, to enjoy our building and
grounds. Write on paper or on a computer (not on desktops,
tables, or walls) and throw trash in the baskets.
BE RESPONSIBLE:
- Come to school appropriately dressed. If you do not come
properly dressed, you will automatically get a warning.
If the problem persists you may not attend classes until
you are in uniform. If there is a reason why you cannot
be in uniform, bring a note from home and talk to your
homeroom teacher first thing in the morning.
- Keep lockers, hallways, classrooms, the library, and the
dining room clean. Eat in the dining room, not in the
halls or classrooms unless your teacher has given you permission.
- Be on time for class and for appointments. Remember to
bring all the proper materials.
- Use athletic equipment in the proper areas: gyms, locker
rooms, fields.
- Leave snow and ice on the ground.
Part II
Any behavior, which in the opinion of the faculty, staff, or the head of school is or could be harmful to students or any members of the school community is unacceptable. It is impossible to spell out every possible problem that might arise in our day-to-day life.
The following list will help you know what is not acceptable:
- The invasion of privacy, including the locker, book
bag, computer, and personal property or person of
another student, or the desk, files, computer, or
personal property of any teacher, staff member or
administrator.
- Abusing, endangering, or intimidating another student
or member of the Tuxedo Park School community by word
or deed including verbal or physical sexual harassment.
This includes actions on or off campus
and includes the use of e-mail or other technology
on or off campus. Examples include
behavior on buses, at social events, optional field
trips, and use of the Internet.
- Sexual activity whether consensual or not that is
considered inappropriate by the head of school.
- Dishonesty. This includes lying, misrepresenting the
truth, and/or plagiarism.
- Cutting classes or leaving campus during the day or
during sports or other school events without permission.
- Vandalism (damaging equipment, fixtures, or furniture,
marking on walls, etc.)
- Tampering with the fire alarm or any other mechanical
system in the building.
- Damaging, altering, or gaining unauthorized access to
school computers or Internet service.
- Possession or use on or off campus of
any object that might be considered dangerous. Examples
include: knives, guns, martial arts weapons, fireworks,
explosive or highly flammable material, and any controlled
substances (drugs, tobacco, alcohol, etc.) The school
reserves the right to notify parents and/or local, state,
or federal authorities and parents and students should
expect that notification will be given.
All of the above behaviors would seriously damage the spirit of
our community at Tuxedo Park School and would necessitate meeting
with your homeroom teacher, the assistant head, the head of school,
and your parents.
Parents and students should expect that any of the behaviors noted
in Part II above or any other activities that the head of school
considers harmful to the individual or the Tuxedo Park School
community will have disciplinary consequences. A student's honesty,
sense of remorse, and past record will be considered by the head
of school. Parents and students should expect disciplinary consequences
that include suspension, a probationary period and possible dismissal
from Tuxedo Park School.
The review of this Code of Conduct in September and January
along with the signed acknowledgement by the student and
parent (Upper and Middle School Students) are considered "warnings."
Subsequent warnings may not be given.
