Ways to Give to Tuxedo Park School
Independent schools like Tuxedo Park School are able to offer outstanding programs because of the support demonstrated each year by generous individuals including parents, alumni, faculty and staff, grandparents, alumni parents, and other friends.
Gifts to Tuxedo Park School can take many forms including unrestricted gifts, gifts-in-kind, underwriting and restricted gifts. Donors also have the opportunity to support various fundraising programs including the annual giving fund, spring benefit, the TPS Classic golf outing, capital campaigns, restricted gifts to endowment, and planned giving. Individuals can choose to support TPS in the following ways:
- The Annual Giving Fund: Since its founding in 1900, Tuxedo Park School has relied on the school community to continue the tradition of fulfilling the school mission: to teach students to become life-long learners and thoughtful, productive citizens and leaders in their communities, our country, and the world. Each year, parents, trustees, alumni, faculty and staff, alumni parents, and other friends demonstrate their financial support through the Annual Giving Fund.
Annual giving support has a direct impact on the quality of education at Tuxedo Park School. Archaeology programs, orienteering, fine arts specialists, technology, the ski program, field trips, and faculty professional development are all supported by annual giving contributions. Annual giving also helps "bridge the gap" between tuition and the school's operating expenses.
The 2007-2008 Annual Giving Fund runs from July 1, 2007 to June 30, 2008. Because every child benefits, TPS has established a goal of 100% participation by currently enrolled families.
- Spring Benefit: Each year TPS hosts a fundraising benefit auction. The 2007 "Winter Palace" was our most successful fundraising event ever and raised $300,000 for TPS.
- The TPS Classic at The Tuxedo Club's Golf House and course benefits the school's financial aid program and takes place at the end of May. In addition to the afternoon tournament for skilled golfers, the TPS Classic offers a morning clinic and 9-hole scramble outing for casual golfers, as well as a boat tour of Tuxedo Lake for non golfers.
- Gifts in Kind: The school welcomes gifts that will enhance the mission of the school. In the past, gifts of computers, science equipment, furniture, books, kitchen equipment, vehicles, and maintenance equipment have saved the school from buying these items and have provided tax advantages for the donor. While the school appreciates the thoughtfulness behind such donations, the Director of Advancement and headmaster must first determine if TPS can use the potential gifts. Therefore, individuals considering making an in-kind gift to the school should first contact Bev Heissenbuttel, Director of Advancement.
Second Century Campaign: The school successfully completed its $8 million Second Century Capital Campaign in 2004. The priorities of the Campaign were faculty salaries, scholarship, building renovation, and new construction. Our endowed chairs in science and English, new and renovated science labs for all three divisions, the scholarship endowment, and the 18,700 square foot addition housing six Middle School classrooms, a full size gymnasium and new locker rooms are the results of this campaign.
