The Pre-K mathematics program uses resources from the McGraw-Hill/Bank Street Mathematics Program. It is based on the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics Standards for Young Learners. Whenever possible the standards are implemented naturally from the daily lives of children; for example, counting snack or figuring out how many children are absent in the classroom. Activities require materials that allow children to use their hands when exploring a math concept. They build, change, engage, organize and finally, discuss what they have done with the materials.
Literature is at the core of the program. Children discuss stories and poetry as they work together on related activities. The teacher’s role is to model and to interact with children as they work. Children enjoy the math games that enrich their mathematical understanding. The standards included are:
| Position and Direction |
Shapes |
| Time |
Sorting & Classification |
| Measurement |
Patterns |
| Problem Solving |
Number Sense |
